Best practices before and during virtual courses

Why is it important to log in 15 minutes before the start of a virtual course?
Before the course begins, you will receive a welcome email with a link to the virtual course. Click the link 15 minutes before the course starts so you can check that your audio and video are working.

How do I ask the instructor questions in a virtual course?
The course takes place live, so you will have the opportunity to ask questions along the way.
You can indicate you have a question by raising your hand. Then, you can ask it directly by turning on your microphone. Alternatively, you can write it in the chat function. Please note that the chat function may not be used in all courses.

What should you be aware of as a virtual participant?
When instruction is virtual, it requires you to be more attentive and engaged. It is important to stay focused and present so that you are ready to ask questions and contribute to dialogue and discussions. Feel free to use clear body language: nod if you agree or give a ‘thumbs up’ using reactions. This helps provide energy to the instructor and the other participants.

Why is it a good idea to turn off notifications and emails?
Make sure you have a quiet environment around you. Turn off your email and put your phone on silent so you are not disturbed. Otherwise, your attention and learning will be impaired. Only check emails during breaks, but also make sure to step away from the screen during breaks so you get to move your body throughout the day.
